“DISORDER IN THE COURT” A HIT AT DINNER THEATRE

There was food, fun and hilarity at the Caledonia Legion on November 15th as the Have a Laugh Players from the Bridgewater area served up not only a rollicking courtroom farce but also a delicious three-course meal to their audience.

This event, sponsored by the North Queens Board of Trade’s Visitor Information Centre Committee, is the second annual dinner theatre held as a fundraiser for the North Queens VIC. The theatre troupe, directed by Karen Whynot, featured one of North Queens’ own thespians, Alexi Payzant of Maitland Bridge. All of the actors delivered their lines (and wisecracks) with near-perfect timing, and they managed to inject plenty of local humour as well.

The dinner featured an excellent “fall salad”, followed by a tasty smothered steak main course and a delicious carrot cake dessert. With 155 tickets sold, it was a good thing that the actors did most of the serving (while remaining totally in character), helping out the VIC committee who were at full tilt in the kitchen. Whoops and guffaws could be heard throughout the hall as the troupe interacted with the guests. No detail was left out in the planning of this event.

The hall (donated by the Caledonia Legion) and tables were beautifully decorated in a fall theme by the VIC Committee with help from their summer staff, Caitlyn Mansfield and Alicia Crouse. Attractive menus were laid out on each table; and a seating plan was drawn up in advance, so there was no jostling for position! Much of the food that made up the dinner was locally produced and purchased. In fact, the beef for the main course was provided by New Grafton Cattle Company.

Congratulations to the VIC Committee and their friends for an unforgettable evening. Who said fundraising couldn’t be fun?
